n1agician says an incantation, it is lie who brings about the desired
effect; whereas, when a priest prays for so111ething, it b not he, hut
a deity, who brings about the effect. In magic: the magician is the
agent; in religion the priest is only the intemediary between the
n1tu1dane world and the supernatural agent. This leads to a second
difference between 1nagic and religion.
